CULTURE CLUBS WORKING IN SAAREMAA ÜHISGÜMNAASIUM

POETRY THEATRE GROUP “KREVERA” (Rita Ilves)
Founded in 1990. The aim is to make students understand poetry and teach them how to behave at the stage. Every year about 8 new programmes are prepared which have been successfully performed at several competitions both at Saaremaa and on the all-Estonian level. The most noteworthy achievments have been as follows:

*1992 – the first prize at all-Estonian festival

*1993 – the laureate of all-Estonian poetry contest

*1993 – a prize for the best staging on Saaremaa Minifestival

*1994 – the first prize at all-Estonian Betti Alver contest

*1994 – the first prize at all-Estonian festival of humour programmes

*1995 – the first prize at all-Estonian Betti Alver contest

*1995 – the laureate of all-Estonian festival “Non-theatre”

*1995 – the laureate of 14th all-Estonian school theatre festival

*1996 – II prize of all-Estonian festival of humour programmes

*1996 – special prizes of Saaremaa Minifestival and all-Estonian school theatre festival

*1996 – the laureate of all-Estonian festival “Non-theatre”

Individual first prizes and special prizes have been won at competitions at Saaremaa and on all-Estonian level by Velvo Väli, Ene Rooba, Tiina Häng, Koit Kelder, and Ott Aardam.

POETRY THEATRE GROUP “KREPUTLASED” (Rita Ilves)
Founded in 1997. Analogical to “Krevera”, but meant for grades 5-9.

DRAMA GROUP “KREISIS” (Sirje Kreisman)
Founded in 1995. The aim is to make students understand literature, discuss life problems. Therefore, besides the drama lessons, also “chat hours” take place to discuss students´ worries and problems. The group has successfully performed at festivals on both county and all-Estonian level. In 1995, the group won a special prize at the Betti Alver contest and reached top three on Juhan Liiv contest on the county level. In 1996 we won a special prize of Saaremaa Minifestival and another special prize at all-Estonian festival in Viljandi.

DRAMA GROUP “KREPIKUD” (Sirje Kreisman)
Founded in 1998 for grades 5-9. A doll theatre.

DRAMA GROUP (Alli Kallaste)
Founded in 1994 for elementary school.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHOIR (Riina Oeselg)
Founded in 1990. In 1993 the choir took part in Tallinn Song Festival for Students, also in the county children´s day. In 1995 the choir performed on Saaremaa Song Festival and in 1996 Läänemaa Song Festival for children. We have performed in many school events like Fathers´ Day, Christmas party, Mothers´ Day etc.

SINGING GROUP “KRÕÕDAD” (Riina Oeselg)
Founded in spring of 1998. The singers are from grade 10.

MIXED CHOIR (Mari Ausmees)
Founded in 1979. During all years, the choir has held the 1st category. The choir has performed at various school events and song festivals.

GIRLS´ CHOIR (Mari Ausmees)
Founded in 1979. Helds the 2nd category. We have performed at school events and song festivals.

CONCERT CHOIR “KREEDO” (Mari Ausmees)
Founded in 1986. Every year, the choir has given at least three full concerts, additionally many other performances. Holds the 2nd category.

YOUNG MEN´S SINGING GROUP “VARSAKABI” (Mari Ausmees)
Founded in 1986. Has won various prizes at contests. At all-Estonian festivals, the group has been named a laureate for three times. The 3rd prize on Valgre festival. The group has 20-30 performances.

GYMNASTICS GROUP FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (Margit Mägi)
Founded in 1997. Pupils learn to move according to music and the elements of aerobics.

GYMNASTICS GROUPS: FOR GRADES 1-2, 3-4, 7-9, 10-12, KAREN rühiSCHOOL (Tiiu Haavik)

Funded in 1986. Prizes have been won at county competitions and all-Estonian contests. In 1990 the groups were given the title of the best school in gymnastics in Estonia. In grades 1-2 and 4-5 in 1990, we won the contest of Estonian TV. The laureates of Estonian School Sport Association in 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995.

1993 – gold medal in Belgium, at the international gymnastics festival

1996 – 65 students took part in Kalev –95 games and gymnastics festival. The students were recognized as a very well prepared group and Tiiu Haavik was given a special prize – golden rose.

We have successfully performed in Finland and Belgium.

FOLK DANCE GROUP “RÜBLIKUD” (Eha Kask)
Founded 1994. It has 34 participants, i.e. two groups. Besides folk dance we try to teach the pupils different things: we play, sing, learn classical dance. We have performed in folk programmes, county events and in Kuressaare Sanatoorium.
