1865 - 1917
Kuressaare Grammar School for Boys. Studies were held in German and later
in Russian.
1915 - 1917 was emigrated to Jaroslavl,
Russia.
1919 - 1940 Coeducational grammar school
named as Saaremaa Ühisgümnaasium since Jan 15, 1919. Boys and girls
were taught together and study language was Estonian.
Jan 15 is celebrated as schools' birthday every
year
1940 - 1941 Estonia was annected by Soviet
Russia. School system was reformed and named as Secondary school of
Kuressaare.
1941 - 1944 German occupation. School named
as Kuressaare Gümnaasium.
1944 - 1990 Again under the power of Soviet
Moscow. Names of the school changed frequently. Some examples: Secondary school
of Saaremaa, Kingissepa Secondary school (named by communist V. Kingissepp),
1st Secondary school of Kuressaare. Studies and student activities were controlled
by Communist Party.
1991 Estonia became independent and school renamed
as Saaremaa Ühisgümnaasium
